Free Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern – Pattern Notes

Crochet terminology used: US crochet terminology

Difficulty level: beginner to intermediate crochet skills and knowledge

Completed size: 10.5cm (4 inches) in diameter if using 3mm = C/2 hook and Light Worsted #3 = DK yarn

Language: only available in English

Free Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern – Materials and Tools Needed

Yarn: this pattern will work nicely with 100% cotton, 100% acrylic or a blend of both. I recommend using Light Worsted #3 = DK yarn

I used:

– Light Worsted #3 = DK yarn

– 100% cotton

– 1x ball of berry yarn – Rico Essentials Cotton DK – colour berry 15 – (50g/130m)

– 1x ball of cream yarn – Rico Essentials Cotton DK – colour cream 88 – (50g/130m)

Crochet hook: I used 3mm = C/2 but refer to the instructions on your yarn label if using different weight of yarn. I recommend this crochet hook set that includes many crochet hook sizes but also yarn needles, stitch markers and other handy bits.

Tools used: scissors, yarn needle, stitch marker

Free Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern – Crochet Terminology Used

This free crochet flower coaster pattern is written using US crochet terminology. Download my free Crochet Terminology Chart for UK terms here. You can print it and keep forever so you always have it to hand.

R: row or round

MR: magic ring

ST: stitch

CH: chain stitch – yarn over and pull through

SC: single crochet stitch – insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull through, you will now have two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook

DC: double crochet stitch – yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop so you now have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

INV SS: invisible slip stitch – when you finish your last stitch in the round, pull up the yarn a bit and remove the hook; then insert the hook into the stitch you would like to slip stitch into BUT go from the back of your work to the front. Loop your yarn back around the hook and pull the loop tight around the hook. Then pull the hook through the stitch and twist the hook back into normal position. After you twist the hook, your yarn will be in front of it so just place it behind the hook.

INV FO: invisible fasten off

(…..) x 6: repeat the pattern inside the brackets by the given number (in this example, repeat the pattern in the brackets 6 times)

{…}: number shown inside these brackets equals the number of total stitches at the end of each round

Start with Your Free Crochet Flower Coaster Pattern

You will crochet the coaster in a round starting from the middle of the coaster. You will join each round with an invisible slip stitch, which is a handy technique that helps you achieve a neat seamless joint.

INV SS: invisible slip stitch = when you finish your last stitch in the round, pull up the yarn a bit and remove the hook; then insert the hook into the stitch you would like to slip stitch into BUT go from the back of your work to the front. Loop your yarn back around the hook and pull the loop tight around the hook. Then pull the hook through the stitch and twist the hook back into it’s normal position. After you twist the hook, your yarn will be in front of it so just place it behind the hook.

If you are unsure how to do the invisible slip stitch or need extra help with this pattern, you can watch this video tutorial that will show you step by step how to crochet this flower coaster.
